About Paul Miclea

A life of professional growth, passion, and practical experience

Born in a small Transylvanian village several years before World War II, Paul worked for more than 52 years, first in a salt mine, then in design and project management throughout the world on feasibility and ventilation studies for a variety of mining projects, public transportation, and transit systems through tunnels requiring special ventilation.

The many obstacles and challenges he experienced in his tortuous life that took him from his childhood as a poor orphan, often-barefoot village boy to gaining national and international recognition in his narrow field of expertise cannot be summarized in a few paragraphs. His soon-to-be-published memoir highlights some of those life experiences.

With an arduous and continuous passion for learning as well as an exaggerated aspiration for perfection and recognition, he survived dramatic transitions through a tightly controlled communist society, ultimately choosing the rough road of uprooting his life and emigration for a completely new life in the majestic San Francisco Bay Area, where he has lived since 1980.

Professional experience in ventilation and fire-life safety

With more than 45 years of experience in the design and management of a variety of projects throughout the world, Paul focused on safety and security in tunnels and other enclosed vehicular facilities including ventilation during normal, congested, and emergency conditions, fire prevention, detection, and suppression.
